In November 2017, Australian Standards announced that KNX Standard – ISO/IEC 14543-3 (Parts 1-6) which covers Communication layers – Network Based Control, will be adopted as an Australian Technical Specification.
This recognition by Standards Australia provides building owners, managers and developers, along with consultants the confidence of how easily they can adapt this truly open protocol. For KNX Australia, this endorsement confirms the versatile and future-proof benefits of the open platform the group advocates, regardless of retrofitting or new builds.
Proprietary systems can be limiting in their ability to address all aspects of smart and converged building technology, whereas an open protocol presents countless possibilities which are easily extendible and adaptable to new needs.
In some cases, these are neither supported or conform to International standards, let alone Australian standards. KNX requires all products to undergo stringent independent testing and verification to ensure compliance with relevant standards is met before approval and KNX logo application is allowed.
KNX Australia is proud to advocate for this truly open platform.
